Dexterity is often needed by player character and mercenary to meet requirements for equipping weapons, and applies a +% Damage bonus to physical attack damage when the following item types are used as weapons:
+% Damage = [Dexterity * Bonus/100]
Every additional point of Dexterity also results in +5 Attack Rating for player character, mercenary and pets, while every four points results in +1 Defense. In Expansion games, Dexterity also affects player character's chance of blocking when equipping a shield, auric shield or shrunken head.
Player character Dexterity varies depending on chosen class at start of game:
Player character can increase Dexterity by allocating attribute points, while player character, mercenary and pets can also gain bonuses from equipped items, and charms in inventory in Expansion games. Typically, a character only needs enough Dexterity to meet item requirements, or achieve desired chance of blocking in Expansion games, although more experienced players with better equipped characters applying physical attack damage may allocate more points if it increases that damage, usually at the expense of Vitality.
